SHAKIRA VISITS THE WHITE HOUSE

World famous Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, known for her multi-genre influenced music and belly dancing, met with President Obama today, a White House official confirmed.

Shakira was at the White House today to meet with members of the National Security Council and the Domestic Policy Council to discuss U.S. policy toward children as well as early childhood development. According to the White House official, Shakira met with the President privately to say hello after the meetings had concluded.

In addition to being a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Shakira is also an advocate for children living in poverty. In a speech she delivered last December at Oxford University, Shakira expressed her hope that children of future generations would regard 2010 as the year that “world education became more important than world domination.”
