Ron Lundy, one of the most influential DJs from the golden age of Top 40 AM radio, has died, according to the trade publication Radio Business Report.
Lundy was one of the jocks at WABC-AM New York during that station's long reign as the No. 1 radio station in the country.
Along with WABC colleagues Dan Ingram, Bruce Morrow and Harry Harrison, Lundy helped shape the sound of Top 40 radio around the country - partly thanks to WABC's 50,000-watt clear channel signal, which could be heard for hundreds of miles on a clear night.
the DJ also has a spot in movie history: It's his voice that Joe Buck (Jon Voight) hears while making his way to New York in "Midnight Cowboy."
Lundy, who moved to Mississippi after retiring from WCBS-FM in the late '90s, reportedly died in a Mississippi hospital of a heart attack.
