On Jan. 23, 1957, Wham-O toy company unveils the Frisbee, an aerodynamic plastic disc used to play catch and other sports. They were sold for a mere 88 cents. The popular toy’s roots date all the way back to 1871 when William Frisbie opened the Frisbie Pie Company in Bridgeport, Conn. Students from nearby universities found the pans could be thrown far when inverted. When they threw them, they yelled “Frisbie!” |
