Analysts and body language experts are noting the contrast in his warm embrace of French President Emmanuel Macron and frostier past encounters with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

On April 26, 1954, polio vaccine trials begin at an elementary school in McLean, Virginia. About 1.8 million children in the United States, Canada and Finland participate in the trials and, the following year, researchers declare the vaccine safe and effective. The Salk polio vaccine becomes a standard childhood immunization in America, eventually almost completely wiping out the highly contagious disease in the Western Hemisphere.

A caravan of Central American migrants crossing north toward the United Stateshas arrived on the US-Mexico border, where fear of persecution at home has led many of them to apply for asylum in the US. Others, who are not optimistic about their chances of entering the US, have decided to stop short of their American dream.
