On April 17, 1964, the iconic Ford Mustang is unveiled by Henry Ford II at the World’s Fair in New York. Named after a World War II fighter plane, the Mustang is the first affordable performance-oriented sporty car. Ford sells more than 400,000 Mustangs within its first year of production, a number that far exceeds sales expectations.
