Britney Spears Gets A Quickie Wedding
2004
Britney Spears marries her childhood friend Jason Alexander (not the actor) at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.
The Chapel is a popular spot for fast and easy weddings - they claim that Mary Tyler Moore, Natalie Maines, Slash and Paul Newman all got married there. The 22-year-old Spears had just released her fourth album, In the Zone, and is asserting her independence, drawing rapt attention from the tabloid press with her unpredictable behavior.
Team Britney doesn't like this at all, and her publicist goes into crisis mode, playing down the wedding by announcing that the couple took their "joke too far." The marriage is annulled 55 hours later, but nine months out, Spears gets married again, this time to Kevin Federline. They part ways two years later.
