'Beyoncé and Taylor Swift lead the nominations for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles on Jan. 31.
In a ceremony on Wednesday night broadcast live by CBS, with performances by the Black Eyed Peas, Nick Jonas and the R&B singer Maxwell, Beyoncé received 10 nominations, including album, record and song of the year. (The record prize recognizes a single recording; song of the year is for songwriters.)
Ms. Swift, the 19-year-old country star, had eight nominations. She and Lady Gaga, who was nominated five times, will face Beyoncé in those same top three categories.
Other big nominees include the Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West and Maxwell, with six nods each, and Jay-Z and the French D.J. David Guetta, each getting five nominations. Zac Brown Band, Keri Hilson, Silversun Pickups, the Ting Tings and the Brooklyn synth-pop duo MGMT will compete for best new artist.
The Grammys, which cover 109 categories, are bestowed by the Recording Academy, whose voting members include songwriters, musicians, producers and other music professionals.
