President Jimmy Carter is now the longest living former president in the history of the United States. At 94, Carter still prays and teaches at the same Plains, Georgia, church he’s been attending for decades. ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY On March 22, 1930, American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim is born. A giant of American musical theater, Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics for such classics as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum , Company , Follies and A Little Night Music , among many others. Sondheim has won an Academy Award, eight Tony awards, eight Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize and a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
