On November 26, 1942, the movie Casablanca premieres in New York City. The World War II-era film starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. The romantic-drama opened nationwide on January 23, 1943, and is considered an all-time classic. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards, ultimately taking three, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
It used to be that American students learned the history of their country from “official” sources — teachers and textbooks accredited and vetted by experts. But that’s no longer true.
