Italy: Diodato wins Sanremo 2020 with “Fai rumore”

The 70th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival has come to an end with a twist: Diodato won the crown and the traditional leoncino — the little golden lion awarded to the sanremese winner.
The 38-year-old Italian singer emerged as an outsider in the competition with the poignant ballad “Fai rumore”. From the start of the week, though, the song was well received by both the public and critics.
During the week, there wasn’t a real stand-out favourite. The various rankings taken into consideration — the demoscopic poll, the orchestra and the press room — had different favourites day after day.
But will Diodato represent Italy at the Eurovision in Rotterdam? RAI confirmed earlier in the weekthat at least 16 of the competing acts had agreed to also represent Italy at Eurovision if they won Sanremo. If Diodate is on this list, the confirmation should arrive shortly, during the traditional press conference that follows the final of the kermesse.
In case Diodato refuses, RAI will internally choose another of the 22 singers in the competition, regardless of their final ranking.
Sanremo 2020 grand final results
The overall combined results consisted of televoting (34%), the press jury (33%) and the demoscopic poll (33%). All 23 finalists started off with the scores achieved in the four previous evenings behind them when they performed their entries on the night.
After the first round of voting, Diodato, Francesco Gabbani and the band Pinguini Tattici Nucleari advanced to the second and last round. In the end, it was Diodato who emerged triumphant!
