NEW PRINCE ALBUM TO BE GIVEN FREE OF CHARGE

While some artists are worried about low album sales, Prince has elected to give his upcoming record "20Ten" away virtually for free – at least, for those who live in the U.K., Belgium and Germany.

The artist – who was given BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award Sunday – will distribute more than 2.5 million copies of "20Ten" with issues of the British paper the Daily Mail as well as the Scottish publication the Daily Record on July 10.

According to Billboard, Prince did the same thing three years ago with his “Planet Earth” release, offering a free CD along with a copy of the Daily Mail. This upset U.K. retailers, who felt they’d supported the legendary musician throughout the decades, the music site points out, and the album still isn’t available for purchase in British stores or online music retailers.

Prince has also agreed to release the disc on July 22 with copies of the August issue of Rolling Stone magazine in Germany as well as with the Belgian paper Het Nieuwblad on July 10.
