On May 14, 1973, America’s first space station is launched into orbit. The 177,000-pound station contained solar observatory, workshop and hundreds of life and physical science experiments. A total of three, three-man missions visited Skylab during its time in space. On July 11, 1979, Skylab fell from orbit with some debris falling to Earth near Perth, Australia.
