Americans have long been drawn to big, open spaces, so perhaps it’s no surprise that houses built in the United States are among the most expansive on the planet. And they keep getting bigger.

ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY On November 7, 1980, actor Steve McQueen dies of cancer at the age of 50. The legendary leading man starred in movies such as Bullitt , The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, Papillon, The Sand Pebbles and The Towering Inferno . McQueen, whose nickname was “the King of Cool,” died in Mexico where he was undergoing an experimental treatment for mesothelioma, a type of cancer.

The massive hydropower project has been the focus of an escalating feud between Addis Ababa and Cairo over water resources.
