Up in Central Park 1948

Up in Central Park

Universal, 1948, B/W, 88min, ***

Released May, 1948

Rosie Moore (Deanna Durbin) and her father (Albert Sharpe) are Irish immigrants who immediately get caught up in corrupt politics upon arriving in America. Boss Tweed gives Rosie's father a job in Central Park, and he becomes fiercely loyal. But Tweed is the boss of a ring that practically controls the entire city. Reporter John Matthews (Dick Haymes) tries to convince the Moores of Tweed's bad ways, but with no luck until Tweed invites Rosie to a party where she sees the truth for herself. Price is perfectly cast as the menacing Tweed. Musical highlights include "Carousel in the Park," "When She Walks in the Room" and the party ballet.
