VIDEO: In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump won Wisconsin by fewer than 30,000 votes. The state is expected to be a battleground state in Trump’s 2020 re-election bid. As VOA reports, the outcome hinges on two things: the impeachment process and America’s continuing economic expansion.
ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY
On December 17, 1777, France officially recognizes the United States as an independent country. The decision, which was made after the Continental Army’s defeat of British forces at Saratoga earlier in the year, was made at the urging of Benjamin Franklin, the American ambassador to France. France was eager to get revenge on the British for their North American losses during the Seven Years War.
U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Monday he has not issued any orders to reduce troops levels in Afghanistan, but added he would like to shift some forces to other missions, including  countering China in the Indo-Pacific region.
A special court in Pakistan Tuesday found former president and military ruler Pervez Musharraf guilty of high treason and sentenced him to death. This was the first time a military dictator was tried and convicted in court in Pakistan.

This is happening despite government promises to stop the exploitation. The rights group said the government’s efforts to stop the abuse were insufficient and ineffective.
