The Star Wars Origin Story You’ve Been Waiting For
If there is a central mystery to the current Star Wars trilogy, which wraps this month with The Rise of Skywalker, it is probably “Who is Rey?” The scavenger turned Jedi warrior, played by Daisy Ridley, has a murky past, and though Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren told her in The Last Jedi that her parents were “nobody,” Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams has suggested there’s more information to come. But Rey’s not the only one who’s going to get a little more history. In a new interview with Vanity Fair’s Anthony Breznican, Abrams revealed that Finn, the former First Order soldier played by John Boyega, will get his backstory filled in as well. “It is part of the story of this one,” Abrams said. “And it was alluded to in Episode VII, but there’s a bit more light shed on that in this one.” Today’s interview with Abrams is the first in a five-part series running on VF.com this week, so keep returning for more from Abrams as the world ramps up for the release of The Rise of Skywalker on December 20.
Elsewhere in HWD, Yohana Desta scours the teaser for the next James Bond movie, No Time to Die, for clues about the super-secret plot; Laura Bradley finds Taylor Swift joining the internet to praise the “weirdness” of Cats; and Martin Scorsese allows for one Apple device on which it’s okay to watch The Irishman, and for God’s sake, no, it’s not your iPhone.
