Phil Collins Paints An Ugly Picture On TOTP

1981
Phil Collins plays "In The Air Tonight" on Top of the Pops with a paint can and brush nearby as props, seemingly a reference to the painter with whom his first wife cheated on him.
Collins insists that the scene was just a nice look he came up with after seeing the paint backstage, but his ex-wife, Andrea Bertorelli, thinks it was far more nefarious. "I was horrified," she tells the Daily Mail. "I knew straight away it was a message to me, but it was a public one. He then proceeded to tell reporters that I'd run off with the decorator. Other singer-songwriters like Adele write albums about their heartbreak, but they don't name and shame like he did."
