Ronnie Wood in double radio award triumph

For the second year in a row, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has been honoured in two categories at the annual Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards.

The 65-year-old won the specialist programme of the year award for his Absolute Radio show, and saw his weekly guest slot named best feature.

Absolute also took the station of the year award.

The awards - now in their 17th year - are organised by RadioCentre, the industry body for commercial radio.

RadioCentre's Andrew Harrison said: "The standard of entries this year was particularly high, demonstrating once again, that commercial radio remains in rude health."

The awards saw XFM host Danny Wallace named presenter of the year, while Classic FM picked up the coveted Gold Award.

The station, now in its 20th year, was heralded for its "creativity, innovation... and the constant refreshing of a product which enables it to stay at the top of its game".

"Many of the presenters who were there on day one are still delighting listeners today, joined by some of UK radio's biggest stars," judges added.

Other winners included Real Radio's Breakfast with Ewen & Cat, and LBC's Emma Barnett - for newcomer of the year.

Adele received the PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited ) award for most played UK artist, an award won by Take That for the past four years.

Global Radio, which owns Classic FM, picked up a slew of awards in the advertising and sales categories.

The awards came as the company announced the launch of new TV channels for Heart and Capital FM.

The channels, which will launch in September on the Sky digital and Freesat platforms, will focus exclusively on music videos.
