Springtime in the Rockies

Springtime in the Rockies

20th Century-Fox, 1942, Color, 91 minutes, ***

Released November, 1942

Betty Grable sings and dances her way through this tuneful, romantic romp that bounces from New York to the Rocky Mountains. Vicky (Grable) and Dan (John Payne) are Broadway hoofers whose partnership is floundering because he keeps looking at other women. Having had enough, Vicky finds another partner (Cesar Romero), with whom she embarks on a western tour. But Dan follows, showing up at a fancy Lake Louise resort with a butler (Edward Everett Horton) and a secretary (Carmen Miranda). That's when the misunderstandings and jealousies really begin! With its shimmering backdrops, wonderful moments from Charlotte Greenwood and a young Jackie Gleason, and Betty Grable at her liveliest, here's nonstop musical fun that will make any day feel like Springtime in the Rockies.
