Introduction of the ‘Kalimera Breakfast”at the 1st Gastronomy Conference
During the 1st Gastronomy Conference, it was proposed that a breakfast named the “Kalimera Breakfast” be introduced in tourist establishments.
It is well known that food is an important factor in the choice of destination for potential travellers, and the meal that it is customary for most, if not all, visitors to enjoy in their hotels is breakfast.
The proposed meal should provide the individual elements that showcase the quality and features of the country, or even of the region in which the specific lodgings are located, thus contributing to the existence of an identity through food, and simultaneously promoting the particular products and flavours connected to a country or region.
The custom of a Greek breakfast will promote Greek products and contribute to boosting local economies, as well as benefitting the destination's distinctness and identity.
The new breakfast suggestion, known as "Kalimera Breakfast" – which will bear a Greek mark and promote Greece as a destination for the international clientele of tourist establishments – was the focus of the 1st Gastronomy Conference “Kalimera Breakfast” hosted by the Hellenic Chefs Association on 5 February 2011 at the EXPO Athens Exhibition Centre as part of the 2011 HORECA International Exhibition for Catering and Equipping Hotels and Catering Establishments.
ARTION was responsible for organising the Conference.
