#CIRCOM2024  #CIRCOMconference  #ChangesAndChallenges

CIRCOM Regional will hold its Annual Conference on 23-24 May 2024. We will meet in the historic city of Poznań in Poland. The most important forum of the regional public service media in Europe will be hosted by TVP Poznań.

"Changes and Challenges“ is the slogan of the Conference.

No doubt, application of Artificial intelligence (AI) in media is leading to most radical changes and presents the greatest challenges. That’s why the opening session of the Conference will be a multifaceted approach on AI. Charlie Halford, Principal Research Engineer at BBC, UK, and Andrea Gerli, Head of Digital information at RAI, Italy, will bring in two viewpoints on AI application in content production. Also we will hear from Omroep Brabant about the Netherland’s practices from Janneke van den Bosch about data usage and Rik Beekwilder on innovation. We will speak about the forefront of innovation with Satu Keto - Innovation Lead at Yle Technology & Development from Finland. Łukasz Mścisławski, a Polish expert in philosophy of science and technology, will put the topic in a wider philosophical context.

While being a driving force behind deep changes, technology can not replace quality content. It is of crucial importance for regional public service media to serve its audiences with good and effective storytelling. So, Monika Górska, the well-known Dr. Story in Poland, will reveal the magic of creating audiovisual stories and explain the crafts and skills needed to enchant viewers. Journalist, academic lecturer, expert in business storytelling and author, Monika Górska now tells her own stories and also teaches others how to be captivating storytellers.

Threats and trolling – online as well as physical ones, is becoming a part of journalists’ everyday life. How did it happen? Why so? Paweł Trzskowski of Radio Polska, Poland and Sami Koivisto of Yle, Finland, will get to the bottom of this problem. Paweł will analyse the motivations behind 'hejt' and why such behaviour persists. Opposite to destructive communication, Sami Koivisto will talk how to strengthen the dialogue between the public and the journalists.

Since we will be in Poznań, we will have the chance to get first-hand information about the changes in Poland’s media landscape Prof. Jędrzej Skrzypczak, Head of the Department of Media Systems and Media Law at Poland’s Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań will be the keynote speaker of the dedicated session Polish Revolution in Public Media. Prof. Skrzypczak will reflect on the current situation of public radio and television in Poland and discuss actions to return to the principles of pluralism and democratic values.

How do regional media in Ukraine operate under the circumstances of the ongoing war will be the focus of special session. During the session Ukraine Still at War our colleagues from the public service television Suspilne will talk about the media landscape in the country and the specifics of reporting sensitive situations. Alla Skorik, Editor-in-Chief of the North East Hub of Ukraine’s public service media, will share her experience how multimedia newsrooms operate in war time. Mariya Frej, who is member of the board of Suspilne, will focus on managements aspects – how do you work with people who are under emotional and even physical pressure with war raging around.

The session on Climate journalism intends to put the stress on the need of new thinking and change in mindset as this global problem more than ever requires urgent action. Journalism as a key to ecological transition will bring in the issue of climate change and the way how it is covered in regional media. We will hear about it from Anne Tézenas du Montcel, economic and climate journalist and climate expert from France. Milana Kneževic, journalist from NRK, Norway, will lead us through the NRK Climate Newsroom. Three journalists will share their media’s experience in handling environmental disasters - Veronika Červinková of ČT Brno, Czech Republic; Barbara Štor from RTV Slovenia and Pere Bosch i Grané of 3Cat, Catalonia, Spain.

The Prix CIRCOM Regional 2024 Gala will definitely be the most emotional moment. On one hand – all of us will be eager to learn the Grand Prix Winner (yes, the name is kept secret till the very last moment:). But most of all the Gala is the celebration of the best achievements of our big family of Europe’s regional pubic service media. Throughout the Conference you can watch all Prix CR entries on our online Teletheque. And of course, on the second day of the Conference there will be a special opportunity to Meet the Winners and speak with them about the secrets of creating captivating, enchanting content, that leaves lasting impressions on the audiences and viewers.
