Yesterday: Trump’s lawyers rested their defense, setting up closing arguments next week in a criminal trial that could upend November’s presidential election. Other Trump news: He falsely claimed President Biden was “locked & loaded ready to take me out” in a 2022 search of his Mar-a-Lago estate for classified documents. In Arizona: Rudy Giuliani and other Trump allies pleaded not guilty to charges related to alleged efforts to reverse Biden’s 2020 win. Read this story            Fani Willis, the prosecutor in Trump’s Georgia criminal case, won her primary. The details: The Fulton County district attorney, a Democrat, is seeking another term as the Atlanta area’s top prosecutor. She’ll face Republican lawyer Courtney Kramer in November. Also yesterday: House primaries were held in Georgia, Idaho, Kentuckyand Oregon. In California, a protégé of Kevin McCarthy won a special election to fill his House seat. It killed and injured people, officials said, and lifted debris 40,000 feet in the air. The threat isn’t over: More severe weather is likely this week, with thunderstorms stretching from Buffalo to Dallas today. Read this story            Louisiana’s House passed a bill making abortion pills controlled substances. What it means: Possessing these drugs without a prescription could be punished with jail or a fine if the governor signs the bill, as expected. Louisiana already bans most abortions.
