- Why? The former president has broken the rules of a gag order 10 times by talking or posting about witnesses, jurors or relatives of people involved in the hush money case.
- Will it actually happen? The judge said jailing Trump is “the last thing” he wants to do, but he will if Trump’s behavior doesn’t change. The trial in New York continues today.

- What to know: Unless Congress takes action, Social Security will be insolvent by 2035, and Medicare by 2036, a new report said yesterday.
- What that means: American seniors could see benefit cuts starting in 2033. The key retirement programs are under pressure as the population ages.

- What’s happening? Increasingly strong waves are eroding cliffs underneath the coastal road. Powerful storms — and engineering missteps — are making landslides worse.
- Can anything be done? The state already spends a billion dollars a year to fix climate-related damage on its roadways. But, eventually, maintaining Highway 1 may become impossible.
