Critics have been swooning over Celine Song’s Past Livessince the film’s Sundance premiere this past January. Now the A24 drama is about to hit theaters across the country—and Song is trying to prepare herself. The film, she tells Rebecca Ford, is a very personal story based loosely on her own life. “It’s a truth of something that happened to me. It’s more about the existential crisis that I was going through,” she says of her directorial debut. “But it’s not really a transcription of my life. It’s more like an inspired bio and adaptation of what it’s been like to be myself.”
