The ongoing writers strike has already shut down virtually all major film and TV productions in Hollywood. Now, if the Screen Actors Guild walks away from negotiations with the studios, the crisis would be intensified because it would likely mean stars couldn’t even promote existing projects. Today, Joy Press and Natalie Jarvey explain it all and talk to folks on the front lines, as the deadline looms and some major celebrities sign a letter urging SAG to hang tough. As one writer hoping for solidarity from the actors puts it, “I personally think this is the [studios’] worst fear—people of Meryl Streepcaliber’s being on strike and talking about the tech disruptions and corporate greed that has been hollowing out the working class of so many creative fields here in Hollywood.” |
