 Musician. Born in Vienna, he taught himself to play the zither at the age of 12. He won immediate fame for composing and playing the unforgettable score of Carol Reed's film "The Third Man" (1949), and it's theme tune became an international hit. Karas later used his royalties to buy a wine bar in Grinzing, Austria, where he entertained customers with his music. The "Harry Lyme Theme" was played at his funeral, and he was buried with his zither. |
