THE IVOR NOVELLO AWARDS ON MAY 19

Plan B and Manchester-based band Everything Everything - who have yet to have a top 40 UK single - have two nominations each at this year's Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting.

Plan B, real name Benjamin Drew, is up for best album for The Defamation of Strickland Banks and most performed song for She Said.

Everything Everything's Man Alive is also up for best album while their song My Kz, Ur Bf is up for best song.

The London awards take place on 19 May.

For best song, electro-indie outfit Everything Everything - who were longlisted for the BBC's Sound of 2010 list - go up against Foals' Spanish Sahara and Becoming a Jackal, by Irish band Villagers.

The Villagers and Oxford band Foals were both nominated for last year's Mercury Prize.

The best album list is completed by Bombay Bicycle Club's Flaws, which reached number eight in the UK after its release last summer.

Most performed

Mercury winners The xx are up for best contemporary song, for Islands, against Katy B's Katy On a Mission and Tinie Tempah's number one single Pass Out.


Katy B's number five hit Katy On A Mission is up for best contemporary song Plan B's She Said is joined by Kylie Minogue's All the Lovers and Scouting for Girls' This Ain't a Love Song in the most performed work category.

Agatha Christie's Marple, Channel 4's Any Human Heart and Sky1's production of Terry Pratchett's Going Postal compete for best TV soundtrack.

For best original film score, How To Train Your Dragon goes up against Monsters and Unstoppable.

And Nitin Sawhney's music for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is nominated for best original video game score, taking on the soundtracks for James Bond 007: Blood Stone and Napoleon: Total War.

Other awards presented at the Grosvenor House hotel ceremony will include prizes for outstanding song collection, international achievement, outstanding contribution to British music and songwriter of the year.

Last year's event was dominated by Lily Allen who won a hat-trick of prizes including songwriter of the year.
