Street Survivors Released Three Days Before Skynyrd Plane Crash

1977
Lynyrd Skynyrd release Street Survivors, the last album with frontman Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines, as both are killed only three days later after the band's plane goes down en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

With singles "What's Your Name" and "You Got that Right," the album peaks at #5 in America. It also becomes the stuff of urban legend, as a few of its features seem to forecast the band's tragic plane crash. Namely, the cover of the album has the whole band engulfed in flames, and one of the songs on the album is "That Smell," which features the lyrics, "The smell of death surrounds you."

In respect to the fallen band members, RCA recalls the original fire-themed cover and replaces it with one with a black background.
