Presenting the 2019 Emmy Nominees
After a long, long seven or so minutes of banter, presenters Ken Jeong and D’Arcy Carden joined forces to reveal the nominees for the 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards Tuesday morning. The announcement confirmed what most prognosticators suspected: that Game of Thrones, which recently wrapped up its final season on HBO, would dominate the proceedings. The fantasy juggernaut’s divisive eighth season nabbed 32 nominations in total; according to the TV Academy, that is the most for any program in a single season in television history. It was followed by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel(which got 20 nominations), Chernobyl (at 19), Saturday Night Live (18), Barry (17), Fosse/Verdon (17), and When They See Us (16).
Elsewhere in HWD, we reveal the first round of confirmed speakers at Vanity Fair’s sixth annual New Establishment Summit, an impressive list that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Bob Iger, Hasan Minhaj, Natalie Massenet, Jon Favreau, Lena Waithe, Brian Armstrong, John Foley, Melina Matsoukas, and Marlon James;Julie Miller goes deep with Carole Radziwill about JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s last summer; K. Austin Collinsreminds us that Law & Order: SVU was covering Jeffrey Epstein years ago; and we recommend the best movies currently available to stream on Hulu.
