And the Emmy Nominees Will Be...
Expect to see a lot of love for a pair of beloved HBO series taking their final victory laps, Game of Thrones and Veep, when the 71st annual Emmy Awards are handed out on Fox on September 22. But there are also several categories at this year’s Emmys that our expert prognosticators believe might get shaken up come nomination day, from lead actor in a drama (where it might finally be Bob Odenkirk’s year) to comedy series (which may make room for a few promising newcomers). And of course, the limited series/TV movie categories, as always, promise to be a bloodbath, thanks to an embarrassment of riches from the likes of Chernobyl, Fosse/Verdon, Escape at Dannemora, The Act, Deadwood, and True Detective. Want a more detailed breakdown of who V.F. believes will walk away happy once Emmy nominations are announced? Look here to find our best guesses.
Elsewhere in HWD, the Little Gold Men podcast team talks through their Emmy nom predictions, in case you prefer listening to reading; contributor Jordan Hoffmantakes rom-com lovers on the When Harry Met Sally... tour of New York, just in time for the film’s 30th anniversary; Yohana Desta has a revealing conversation with Awkwafina, star of The Farewell, one of this summer’s best movies; and Joel Stein examines the new crush of celebrity-stuffed churches popping up across Los Angeles.
