ON THIS DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY
On April 8, 1935, Congress establishes the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The goal of the WPA was to give jobs to the millions of Americans left unemployed by the Great Depression. The jobs were focused on public building projects that would not interfere with privately held businesses. The blooms have attracted tens of thousands of people, causing massive traffic tie ups in small cities such as Lake Elsinore.
On the sidelines of two days of events marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the United States signed a bilateral defense cooperation agreement with Hungary, an act that went almost unnoticed by American media.
