On July 9, 1850, the 12th president of the United States, Zachary Taylor, dies after just 16 months on the job. He falls ill with an unknown digestive ailment after eating raw fruit and iced milk. Taylor is succeeded by Vice President Millard Fillmore. Today, historians and medical experts continue to speculate on what killed the military war hero of the Mexican-American conflict.
