Meet the Tony Nominees |
Yes, Emmy campaigning is in full swing right now. But a few decorated screen stars, from Oscar winners (Jessica Lange, Eddie Redmayne) to Emmy winners (Sarah Paulson, Jim Parsons), are in the midst of the final push for New York theater’s highest honor too. |
Then David Canfield gets into it with William Jackson Harper, who is finishing a remarkable year onstage between Uncle Vanya—for which he received his first Tony nomination—and Primary Trust, which took home this year’s Pulitzer Prize in drama and won Harper an Obie Award. While Harper has spent the last several years blossoming onscreen—most notably as the character Chidi on The Good Place, but also in rich roles on Max’s Love Life and Peacock’s The Resort—he came up as a workhorse on the New York theater circuit, making his Broadway debut a decade ago opposite Bryan Cranston in All the Way. Returning to the stage with more career stability, Harper feels himself a freer actor than ever—and it shows in his work.
