My Lucky Star

My Lucky Star
20th Century-Fox, 1938, B/W, 84 minutes, ***½
Released September, 1938
Sonja plays Kristina Nielson, a shop girl who is sent to a small New England college as a marketing ploy by her employer. She is to receive free tuition in return for wearing the fashions that the store sells. The film features Cesar Romero and the comedy of Buddy Ebsen and Joan Davis. Buddy and Joan sing "Could You Pass in Love." Billy Gilbert appears in one of his comedy routines, expounding on the virtues of pistachio nuts. Sonja and Ensemble perform her famous "Alice Through the Looking Glass" ice ballet, which was a staple in her live shows. Great entertainment!
