PAUL SIMON'S 'GRACELAND' REUNION

Paul Simon reunited last month with his original band from his "Graceland" album for a truly magical event.

"Graceland," which won numerous Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and sold close to 20-million records worldwide, is also credited as beginning the World Music boom. The CD and subsequent concert tour highlighted the beautiful music from South Africa, featured such incredible artists as a cappela singing group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, jazz icon Hugh Masekela and other well known South African musicians such as guitarist Ray Phiri, saxophonist Barney Rachabane, guitarist John Selolwane (from Cameroon), drummer Isaac Mtshali, Tony Cedras, Bakithi Kumalo and several others.

The reunion was part of a documentary movie being filmed for future release that chronicles the making of this historical album.

It was an incredible night of music as Simon and his band tore through all of the songs from the CD. Some highlights were Ladysmith Black Mambazo joining Simon for a beautiful rendition of their classic song "Homeless" and the fun upbeat "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes." Hugh Masekela added his own special magic with an incredible rendition of his masterpice "Stimela."
