LATEST X- MEN FILM TOPS UK BOX OFFICE

The fifth X-Men movie has topped the UK and Ireland box office in its opening weekend, taking £5.4m in three days.

X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto in roles previously played by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

Debuts for the last four films ranged from £4.7m to £7m.

There were three other new releases in the top 10 this week including JLS: Eyes Wide Open, Senna and Ready.

JLS's first film debuted at number five weekend ticket sales totalling £463,914.

Documentary film Senna, which tells the true story of Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34, was at number six, followed by Ready.

X-Men: First Class, which is the prequel to the previous four films in the comic book franchise, pushed The Hangover 2 in second place.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Stranger Tides was at number three this week, replacing Diary Of a Wimpy Kid 2, which fell one place to number four.

In eighth place was Rio, followed by Fast And Furious 5 at number nine and Thor in 10th.
