Like many people who read the 2014 novel All the Light We Cannot See, Shawn Levy fell hard. “I loved this story and the way it is about the endurance of hope in the midst of the darkest of circumstances, and that it had this universal and broadly resonant theme, but with characters that were super specific,” the director tells Rebecca Ford in her first look at Levy’s limited-series adaptation, coming to Netflix this fall. “The story is so sweeping, and it’s an interesting combination of intimate storytelling and epic backdrop. I had a feeling that two hours was never going to service such a beautiful, dense novel.”
Elsewhere in HWD, David Canfield has another first look—this one at the next season of Couples Therapy; Julie Millertalks to director Lorene Scafaria about the machinations of the latest episode of Succession, while Chris Murphy catches up with Zoe Winters, who plays Logan’s assistant-slash-lover; and Jonathan Majors reportedly gets dropped by his manager and PR team following his arrest.
