The Harry Potter franchise Fantastic Beasts launches its latest installment, The Secrets of Dumbledore, this week amid yet another controversy—this one surrounding star Ezra Miller,who was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment in March following alleged outbursts at a karaoke bar in Hawaii. Today, V.F.'s Savannah Walsh walks you through not just Miller’s precarious situation but the thunderclouds still following Johnny Depp and J.K. Rowling,as well as a new report that six seconds of dialogue referring to Dumbledore’s past love affair with Gellert Grindelwald were cut from the film for the China market. As Walsh writes, “The Secrets of Dumbledore will have to make a cultural splash of a different kind if the series has any chance of staying afloat.”
