2016Leon Russell, 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, dies in his sleep at age 74.

2015A Tribe Called Quest re-issue their debut album, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, and perform "Can I Kick It?" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, making their first TV appearance in 15 years. It is their last-ever performance, as Phife Dawg dies four months later.

2012Soundgarden release their sixth album, King Animal, their last with Chris Cornell.

2012RCA Records releases a greatest hits album to commemorate the late Whitney Houston, who died in February 2012. The album, titled I Will Always Love You - The Best of Whitney Houston, includes all 11 of her #1 Billboard charting hits.

It's also the night when their friend and fellow rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard from the Wu-Tang Clan dies. 2002William "Bill" Berry, trumpeter for Duke Ellington and The Merv Griffin Show band, dies after a yearlong battle with lung cancer at age 72.

2002Michael Stewart (guitarist for We Five) commits suicide at age 57, though it was first reported that he died of a long illness.

Taylor Swift Lands 11 Songs In The Hot 100 At Once

Taylor Swift sets a record by becoming the first female artist to place 11 songs on the Hot 100 at the same time.


All of the songs are from her album Speak Now (released on October 25) and 10 of them are new entries. The list: #17 "Sparks Fly" #21 "Mine" #27 "Innocent" #41 "The Story of Us" #54 "Dear John" #56 "Better Than Revenge" #63 "Haunted" #71 "Last Kiss" #75 "Enchanted" #84 "Never Grow Up" #85 "Long Live" Beyoncé breaks the record when all 12 songs from her Lemonade album enter the chart on May 14, 2016.
