Loi restaurant, which opened in October 2011 at 208 West 70th St., is closing as of today. "We would have stayed if we could have come to an accord on the lease, but we couldn't work things out,'' explains Mel Wymore, Maria Loi's financial partner, who was a former candidate for city council in the neighborhood. "Chef Loi is a treasured contributor to the Upper West Side and there is no doubt she will continue to be a force on the New York restaurant scene.''
Loi has a busy fall coming up: Industry sources say the "Martha Stewart of Greece" is scouting for a new location, and is also launching a Loi yogurt along with a dishware line for QVC, in addition to penning a book for Harper Collins.
