The Unshameable Sharon Stone
Paul Verhoeven’s smash hit erotic thriller Basic Instinct made Sharon Stone. But as Stone explains in this exclusive excerptfrom her forthcoming memoir—The Beauty of Living Twice, out March 30—the process of filming the movie was anything but a fairy tale. Stone had to fight to get the role of murderous author Catherine Tramell; she was thrown by the character’s dark nature. And, of course, there was the famous leg-crossing scene, where Stone was asked to remove her underwear but told the camera wouldn’t be able to see “anything”—then learned that wasn’t true only when she saw the film for the first time “with a room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project.”
Elsewhere in HWD, Anthony Breznican gets Zack Snyder to explain the ending of his revamped Justice League, as well as what would have happened in the sequels Snyder will probably never make; Sonia Saraiya reviews another comic book-based property, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier;Katey Rich catches up with the creators of Netflix’s charming children’s show Waffles + Mochi; and Trevor Noah delivers a moving monologue about this week’s devastating Atlanta shootings.
