Hello, Insiders. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
This is Spriha Srivastava, filling in for Nicholas Carlson. I’m Insider’s London bureau chief and international executive editor. Our US team is off for Thanksgiving holiday, but our global newsrooms are still in action.
It's already starting to look a lot like Christmas here in London and I am hoping to get my tree up this weekend.
But while it's festive all around, surging inflation in the UK means the cost of living has increased at its fastest rate in over 40 years. Food and energy prices have gone up and everything feels a lot more expensive this year, including the Christmas tree.
But the pain is not just limited to the UK. Food shortages and rising priceshave been a big theme globally in 2022. The American Farm Bureau Federation says the cost of turkey is up by more than a fifth compared to last year as a result of supply chain disruptions and the war in Ukraine, while some farms have also been hit by bird flu.
Did you find your Thanksgiving dinner more expensive this year? Let me know at insidertoday@insider.com.
