Tiger Is Under Par
Tiger Woods contains multitudes—many of which fall under the microscope of Tiger, HBO’s new two-part documentary. But as Cassie da Costa writes, there’s a curious blank space at the center of the production, which doesn’t reckon fully with race and the role it has played in Woods’s life and career. The film, she says, “fails to deeply examine the traces of emotional wreckage wrought, in no small part, by a childhood that wasn’t only ‘planned’ by the ambitious and demanding Earl”—Woods’s father—“but submerged in a world of whiteness.”
Elsewhere in HWD, Yohana Desta digs into the welcome news of a new Sex and the City limited series—and the unwelcome news that it’s proceeding without Kim Cattrall;Arnold Schwarzenegger gives a powerful statement about last week’s Capitol siege; Jordan Hoffman remembers the late director Michael Apted; and Queen Latifah plots a returnto television.
