Timber!

Today chief critic Richard Lawson contemplates the vicissitudes of Justin Timberlake’s career as a movie actor, and bears some bad news about his return to the big screen in Palmer. The movie, Lawson writes, is the latest entry in the maudlin “kid-teaches-adult genre.” It does nothing to cement Timberlake’s reputation. “Will this decidedly 21st-century child help the stunted, nearing-40 millennial learn to live again on the backroads of rural Louisiana? Reader, he will.”

Elsewhere in HWD, Armie Hammer says goodbye to another role; writer-director Zoe Lister-Jones talks about channeling COVID fears into a new movie; our Little Gold Men team examines the latest awards developments; and V.F. moderates a panel with some of Netflix’s most exciting documentary filmmakers.
