On September 21,1780, American General Benedict Arnold becomes a traitor after meeting with British Major John Andre to discuss handing over West Point, now the United States Military Academy, to the British in exchange for money and a high position in the British military. Arnold’s plot never came to fruition, but the former hero has become synonymous with the word “traitor” ever since.
