Like what? The president appeared to suggest Donald Trump’s supporters were “garbage” this week. It highlighted the problems Biden can cause for his vice president’s campaign. On the Republican side: Trump’s rally in New York on Sunday showed how bigoted language has infused his campaign. It cost him at least one celebrity endorsement. Zooming out: More than 58 million early votes have been cast — this map shows where. Read this story            The Supreme Court allowed Virginia to remove about 1,600 people from voter rolls. Why? Republican officials said they may not be U.S. citizens, but civil rights groups said many were eligible to vote. It’s one of several election-related legal battles across the nation. What else to know: Trump continues to lay the groundwork to claim a stolen election if he loses. Yesterday, he alleged fraud in Pennsylvania, but officials say the election is secure. Read this story            At least 95 people died in severe flooding in Spain. What happened? As much as a foot of rain fell late Tuesday in and around Valencia in eastern Spain. Some places got a year’s worth of rain in a few hours. The damage: The water swept away cars, flooded homes and destroyed a bridge. The death toll may rise as authorities continue rescue efforts. Read this story            ADVERTISEMENT     Bird flu was detected in a pig for the first time in the U.S. Where? At least one pig at a backyard farm in Oregon was infected with the H5N1 virus that has swept the nation’s poultry and dairy cows, officials said yesterday. Why it’s worrying: Pigs can become coinfected with bird and human viruses. That allows genes to swap to form a new, more dangerous virus that can more easily infect humans. Read this story            A carved “curse” was found in a spooky medieval house in England. A volunteer tour guide found this inscription cursing a previous owner. But it’s upside-down, which was thought to curse the named person. It wasn’t the only haunting find: Ritual protection marks, known as “witches marks,” were also discovered in Gainsborough Old Hall, which has had a tumultuous history. Read this story
