Prince William to attend Pope's funeral | The King has spoken of the "devastating loss" of Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday. Flags have been flown at half-mast at royal residences as a mark of respect.
| When Prince William attends Saturday's funeral at St Peter's Basilica, he'll be alongside UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, in what will be one of his biggest international engagements so far. He's following in his father's footsteps, as 20 years ago, Charles -then Prince of Wales - went to the funeral of Pope John Paul II. He postponed his wedding to Camilla in order to attend. |

 | The King and Queen remember meeting the pontiff with “particular affection”. Credit: Getty | A planned state visit to the Vatican that had to be postponed because of the Pope’s ill health was due to include the King and the pontiff emphasising the links between different faiths, in what would have been a spectacular service in the Sistine Chapel. Instead that historic chapel, with its Michelangelo paintings, will now be the site of the conclave (Papal election) choosing the next Pope. |
