The Case Against Every Best-Picture Nominee |
Oscar campaigning used to seem much more cutthroat. As Bob Dylan might say, the times have a-changed. Harvey Weinstein is out of circulation, for one thing, and sometimes it seems like everybody is just playing nice. Still, social media is doing what it can to churn the waters. Now anybody can launch an opposition campaign against an Oscar contender. Emilia Pérez, in particular, has come under fire from various quarters, despite (or possibly due to) the fact that its audaciousness has inspired many rapturous reviews, and it earned more Oscar nominations this year than any other movie. Today, we’ve assembled the criticisms being lobbed at all the movies up for best picture this year. Are some of the detractors less convincing than others? We think so, but we’ll let you be the judge. |
