- The details: A 32-year-old nurse died of the virus in Kampala, the East African nation’s capital, officials said yesterday. He had 44 close contacts, who are being traced.
- Digging deeper: Uganda’s last outbreak, in 2022, killed 55 people. Ebola is spread through direct contact with body fluids of an infected person. There is an effective vaccine.

- What happened? Damian, a miniature Doberman pinscher, disappeared in May 2017 during a cross-country move. His owner, Paul Guilbeault, feared he had been killed.
- Then what? This month, Damian was found in Oklahoma City. When the two were reunited thanks to a microchip, it was clear that their bond was still strong.
