The Fall of the House of Hammer
Today’s long read: Julie Miller’s exhaustive look at the Hammer family, a wealthy clan whose sordid history stretches back to patriarch Julius Hammer…and forward to actor Armie, who endured a very public fall from grace this winter. Hammer has weathered the scandal in part by getting more than five tattoos in a matter of months—including the letters “E.G.B.A.,” which stand for “Everything’s gonna be alright,” and the word “chaos.” Said one Armie friend to Miller: “I’m pretty sure he’s accomplishing that.”
Elsewhere in HWD, Cassie da Costa reviews a worthy new film, Inheritance; Yohana Desta details a new study that shows just how Hollywood could be hurting itself by not supporting Black talent; Erin Vanderhoof outlines Piers Morgan’s long-standing, one-sided feud with Meghan Markle;and we predict this year’s Oscar nominations. (Want to chat with the hosts of V.F.’s Little Gold Men podcast about those predictions, or anything else? Sign up to receive texts from them here!)
